WizIQ Recordings (problems)
« on: February 27, 2016, 10:41:00 PM »
Assalaamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh:

BarakAllahu feek for all the courses - including the live courses (UF110i, FQ201i and FQ301i). As with any live session, minor technical difficulties are to be expected but, alhamdulillah, for the most part the live sessions are pretty smooth.

While the live sessions are relatively glitch-free, the recordings seem to have a couple of significant glitches relating to timing:
  • off by approx. 1 full minute - resulting in overlapping speech, making it difficult to listen to and follow the speaker when the mic is passed to another; and
  • off by approx. 4 minutes - resulting in the recording starting late/ending early, cutting off.

End result: important information is missed.

I believe it has to do with 'pausing' the recording during the live session... I noticed this happened in the UF110i recording for February 27th (the recording is paused early on for approx. 3-4 minutes). Not sure if this will help but here is a screenshot of the 3 different time stamps for that session, towards the end of the recording (see the info in red boxes)::

Something happened with the Nur al idah (FQ201i) recording - all audio cuts off completely at approx. 17 min mark and no audio from that point on.

Assalaamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh:

I went through the recordings for all three classes today (didn't listen in detail but checked at multiple points throughout each); they are all fine and reflect the same audio quality issues we experienced during the live-class. The only issue unique to the recordings is a slight lag between the text in the chat window and the audio but it is not significant at all.

I noticed the recording window looks very different now - it's black-and-white - however, alhamdulillah, the captured whiteboard is the same. I did not notice any shifts to external/other pages (e.g. skype, chrome, etc.) - the whiteboard was steady with the class materials only. One other change with this new method is that only 1 time-meter/line shows in recordings (as opposed to 3 different meters before).

May Allah Ta'aala grant increased stability in the sessions (audio), and put barakah in these efforts, ameen.

وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته

I think the reason why you saw the black-and-white version of the recording was that you probably accessed it a little too early. I've done the same before and noticed that it takes a while for the regular recording to be available. I just downloaded one now and it looks fine.

Oh, that's interesting because I just went in to view it again and it still shows b/w for me... I tried downloading it and that is also b/w. It doesn't matter though since the whiteboard content has colour... it's just the theme/chat area colours are simple. Here's what it looks like for me:

You'll see the difference when you contrast it with the previous screen-shot (partial) I posted earlier in the thread.

Here's a screenshot from the recording I downloaded for Sunday's Uṣūl al-Shāshī class:

Yes, you're right, that one does have colour now; maybe the others will change too. Alhamdulillah, the audio, whiteboard and chat-feed (for answers) is all that really matters and it is fine in all courses regardless of whatever else is/isn't captured.

I just checked the Nūr al-Īḍāḥ recordings and understand what you mean now about them being black and white. My guess is that since that class was about the time when the internet started getting really bad, it might be the reason why the regular recordings aren't available from that point. So it makes sense then that the Uṣūl al-Shāshī recording works fine since the internet was also fine at the time.

That does cause a slight inconvenience since the mp4 versions of the recordings are not available yet, so it doesn't really work on mobile.
